Korean name compatibility
Almost everyone in Korea played it at school: write your name and the other person's in Hangul, count the strokes of each syllable and keep adding until two numbers are left. That is the percentage. Try it with your partner, your crush or your bias.
How it was calculated
How 이름궁합 works
Each Korean syllable is written with letters (jamo), and each letter has a number of strokes: ㄱ has 1, ㅂ has 4, ㅏ has 2. Add the strokes of a syllable and you get its number.
The syllables of the two names are interleaved (first of one, first of the other, second of one…) with their numbers below. Then you add neighbours two by two and keep only the last digit. Repeat until two digits are left: that is the percentage.
It's a schoolyard game, not a Saju reading. For real compatibility, the two full birth charts are compared.
FAQ
Does the order of the names change the result?
Yes. Because the game interleaves syllables, starting with one name or the other can give a different percentage. Many Koreans try both ways.
Which stroke counts do you use?
We count strokes by standard Hangul stroke order. Some versions count letters like ㅈ differently, so another site may give another number.
Does it work with English names?
Yes. First we write the name in Hangul by sound, then we count the strokes.
