Dreaming of the moon: meaning in Korea
In Korean tradition, a full moon in a dream is a wish coming true: harmony, beauty, fullness and a soft, luminous taemong.
What they say in Korea 달꿈
In Korea, the full moon is the star of Chuseok, the harvest festival, and of Jeongwol Daeboreum, the first full moon of the year, when people climb hills to make wishes on it. That is why, in kkumhaemong, dreaming of a full, round, bright moon is said to announce that an important wish will come true. It is also tied to family harmony, a calm reputation and inner beauty. If the moon falls into your arms, it is a much-treasured taemong (태몽). A waxing moon is read as something on the rise, and a moon hidden behind clouds as a wish that needs patience.
Depending on the details
if you see the full moon
Wishes coming true and a season of fullness. In Korea it is one of the happiest dreams, perfect for whispering a wish when you wake up.
if the moon is waxing
Something is on the rise: income, popularity, a relationship. What started small grows stronger every day, like the moon in its cycle.
if the moon is hidden behind clouds
A wish still waiting for its moment. The Korean reading invites patience: clouds pass, and the moon is still there, even when you cannot see it.
And luck?
After dreaming of the moon, a Korean would make a wish at the next full moon, as people do at Daeboreum.
In other traditions
In the West the moon in dreams is tied to intuition, femininity, cycles, mystery and emotions. A full moon can point to culmination, and a new moon to beginnings or hidden things.
